Click the photo above for an interesting article about "grade inflation". I'm probably guilty with my re-quizzes and re-tests policy. So should I stop offering such opportunities? Not sure...

I bought my first ever bow-tie this week. Well, my first ever REAL bow-tie that needs to be tied (as opposed to a clip-on tie). I have learned two things from this experience:
(1) I look absolutely ridiculous in a bow-tie. It makes my true geekiness WAY too apparent (2) tying a bow-tie is WAY harder than a regular tie. You know how annoyed / frustrated / despondent you get some times with difficult math questions (word-problems anyone?). That's how I felt with this damn tie. At one point I ripped it off and threw it on the ground. Talk about a ridiculous image. And then, once I FINALLY succeeded in getting it tied correctly, the results were... uh... less than inspiring. Don't expect me to wear my bow-tie to school anytime soon (or wear it AT ALL for that matter). Anyway... I must have watched about 20 videos (each of which purported to make tying a bow-tie about as easy as washing a raspberry. LIARS!!!) before I found THIS one. And this one actually helped! Even if you DON'T want to tie a bow-tie, watch the video. It's THAT good!! This graph is so bad that it's funny. Talk about misleading (perfect timing. Just starting this topic with my grade 8's)!! And check out those ages listed on the left. It doesn't even have "18" down as one of the values. Rather, they chose to go with 17.6 and 18.4, etc. Sure wish they'd lower the drinking age to 18.45... Click on the graph to see the actual news article (on cbc.ca) where the graph showed up.
