What the statistics for my website usually look like: The distorted statistics caused by Reddit fans of (my former student) Artour Babaev. In case you want to see the Reddit thread that caused this. It's pretty hilarious (especially the put-downs of Canadian mathematics courses) but be warned: some profanity!

This week's Student of the Week is Lokton A.
Lokton is one talented guy. He plays both the piano and the violin. He participates in cadets, martial arts (hapkido), badminton , and archery (second in all of Canada for his age group!). And then there is his Math ability! Very impressive! One thing I will always remember about Lokton is his very dramatic entrances into my classroom. This can happen at any time of the day (not only during his class). I'll be sitting quietly, doing some marking or maybe talking with a student and suddenly: "MR. WADGE!! WHAT'S UP!!" The man knows how to make an entrance. "Meek" is not a word I would use for Lokton. Lokton has a generous heart; he has spent a LOT of time at King George volunteering in different capacities (no idea how he finds the time). And - though I'm still upset he bailed on Peer Tutoring my grade 8's this year - I must acknowledge Lokton for all the Math help he HAS provided for many KG students over the past few years. Lokton, you have always been concerned about how you stack up against other KG Math students ("who got the best mark? Who won the Math contest" etc). Here's a little life lesson for you: stop comparing yourself to others as the source of your satisfaction. You have SOOOOO much going for you and you should be very proud of who you are and what you have (already) accomplished. There will always be people in this world who are smarter, richer, more powerful, "better". But that does not take away from the fact that you, Lokton, are a talented, charismatic, and special person. It's truly been a pleasure to teach you and to talk with you outside of class time. I wish you well! |
