The deal is, every year, that the first grade 12 name pulled out of the white bag will be the first Student of the Week. Sometimes this has led to me having to write posts for students who I hardly even know! Happily, that did not happen this year. It couldn't be easier (and i couldn't be happier) to write about Tavares this year.
By now, i know Tavares pretty well. I have taught him twice (PreCalculus 11 and Calculus 12) and I have "coached" (it's more like a supervision role) him in Cross-Country Running for the past three years.
Tavares is a very talented runner. He is one of the fastest runners for his age in all of Vancouver and has made Provincials three times. The first year it absolutely poured. It was windy and cold and completely miserable. Here's Tavares, shortly after finishing...
Last year's Provincials may have been colder. Tavares ran his race in the snow!! Here's proof. Good form, Tavares!
I know you have worked very hard with your running, Tavares. I am glad you have been rewarded with such success the past three years.
Thanks for always being such a kind, gentle, and determined student. It has been very enjoyable (and very easy) to teach you. Good luck to you in the future. May the wind always be at your back!
