I love music. And I LOVE going to concerts. I'll go see (almost) anything. Got a free ticket to Justin Bieber? I'll take it! Anyway, I figured out this summer that I've seen over 200 concerts in my life. And I've seen some big acts - U2, Radiohead, Metallica, Tool, AC/DC, Prince, Roger Waters, The Police, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, etc. These are some of the bands that are often named amongst the best live acts of all time. But the one guy who I haven't seen - and who is often named as the greatest of all! - is Bruce Springsteen. And today I got my tickets to see "The Boss" in November! Yahoo! Thanks to Bijan who got through on his phone so I could get some good seats. You da man Bijan!! More exciting news. I ordered a new suit on-line (from Indochino - does anyone else have their ad showing up EVERYWHERE on your Facebook / Gmail / etc?) and it arrived today... and it fits great! Psyched to wear it for my (big) birthday next week. Here's the suit (probably don't wear it as well as this guy)... Sadly, I also got a flat tire on my way home on my bike. Not a huge deal (had TONS before) but had big problems getting enough air in the new tube. FRUSTRATING!! Here is a picture of me changing the tire. JOKING!!!! I don't wear spandex... well, at least not when I am riding to school. What happens on the weekends need not be mentioned here...
My wife went to see if she could get French citizenship for our daughter (Sophia) today. You see, my wife's parents moved to Canada (from Paris) shortly before she was born... thus she's always been a French citizen. Turns out it's no problem for Sophia to gain citizenship... AND IT TURNS OUT I CAN GET IT TOO!!!! That's right, People, your teacher is suddenly a French guy. Il est un professeur français! C'est bizarre, non? Attention Monsieur Warrington et Madame E: Vous avez une certaine concurrence maintenant! Vive la France! Vive ton professeur! Wow! Check out all these Math / Logic games. No need to waste your time anymore attending parties / get-togethers / social events on weekends. Now you've got a virtual cornucopia of mathematics-related fun at your fingertips. The things I do for you people! <---- click on the photo of this Math fan to access the site <----- Here's a list of apps that you can use on your Ipad (click the photo on the left). Sadly, I am not an owner of an Ipad. But some of YOU are. So take advantage of these things, for goodness sakes! I mean, who DOESN'T want to fill their electronic devices with math-related technology? So cool... The first full week ends... and I am exhausted. Tired but happy. I had such a great week. I feel so lucky to get to spend my days with such wonderful people. My students are so willing to try new things (Flip classroom), to forgive me when I am disorganized, to share a laugh... I even had one wonderfully sweet grade 8 student give me a spontaneous hug at the end of the day on Friday. I mean, this is not exactly a day-to-day occurrence for a high-school teacher. But come one - who doesn't love a hug? So thanks [unnamed] - you made my day! :) Hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Thanks for making my job so much fun! Here's a link to the article on Flipped Classrooms in last Friday's Vancouver Sun: Talks about the "magic" - and the "controversy" surrounding Flipped Classrooms. Interesting stuff! Bonus! There is a link at the bottom of the page to a story about Jennifer Aniston's nose job! Now THAT'S important stuff! And, it gives me an excuse to post a picture of Jennifer Aniston on my blog. Yahoo!!! This blog just got a whole lot better looking!!! p.s. turns out the Jennifer Aniston story only shows up SOMETIMES at the bottom of the page. Oh well, I'm not deleting the picture now. I wouldn't want Jennifer to be angry at me (I'm trying to stay on her good side).
Well, so much for the first week of school. Almost finished my least favorite days of the whole year (the first 2 classes of each block). One more day of blah, blah, blah (expectations, rules, letters to parents, etc) and then I'm home free for the rest of the year. TOO MUCH TALKING (by me)!! I'm really happy with all my classes. All you student-folk seem great (well, I already know the grade elevens ARE great but it seems like an excellent group of grade 8's too!). I'm anticipating another fun year, surrounded by awesome teenagers!! Today was the big "REVEAL" of the Flipped Classroom I am going to try with the grade 11 classes. I feel like a nervous new father. Hope it works well. Make sure to save up your concerns / complaints / ideas to give me LATER (I really don't want to hear them for at least a week. That would be like calling my newborn baby "ugly". Not nice!). Feel free to send praise and love though. I'm always open to that... Thanks for the great start to the year! |
