This week's Student of the Week is Chau P.
Chau is a very interesting student. Just this week I found out that she used to live in Brunei. And Hungary! And Thailand (I think). And now Vancouver! Wow! This girl is more worldly at graduation age then I will likely EVER be! Imagine some of the experiences she's had and things she's seen! One of my favourite memories of Chau was watching her practice her dance routines... DURING SILENT READING! I'd be reading my book and gradually notice this noise: "tap. Tap-tap. Tap. TAP. Tap-tap". What the...? I look up and there is Chau, kind of reading her book (not really) and moving her feet in some sort of rhythmic pattern. She's dancing... but just with her feet! Incidentally, I have seen Chau's dancing prowess in action a couple of times. There is the dance she did with Telmen (which I posted last week I believe). And there was another video she made with Youra that I am not allowed to post... (boo!!) I don't think Chau has EVER asked me for help in Math class. Talk about a talented and independent Math student! Chau always received VERY high marks in Math class... and she always learned everything all on her own. Impressive! Hey, something else I love about Chau: she rides a bike to school! Yahoo Chau! Chau, I will miss your big, beautiful smile and the little songs you sang to yourself under your breath (I do that too!). Who knows where in the world you will end up (you've been so many places already!) but I know you will find great success wherever you are. It's been a true pleasure to teach you Chau. All the best to you!! The end of this year was - to be totally frank - pretty crappy but that does not take away from the fact that I had an AWESOME year teaching this year (quite possible my best year ever!!). Thanks to each and every one of you for being so much fun to teach. What makes my job so great (and makes me so very thankful) is the opportunity to spend time with such interesting, personable and unique young people. You are ALL wonderful!!
I acknowledge you for all the classes you attended (especially when you didn't want to), the homework you did, the videos you watched, the requizzes you wrote, the hard work you invested, the assistance you provided to others, the smiles you provided me, the laughs we shared. You did great things this year! For some of you (those of you changing schools or graduating this year), it was time to say "goodbye" this month (NOOOOOOO!!!! Very, very sad) and for those of you I'll say "Good luck and I hope to see you again soon". And for the rest of you I'll say "Happy Summer and I look forward to seeing you again in September". Be safe! Have fun! Enjoy your summer break. You deserve it! <3 Not the graffiti in red. The (slightly less profound) scrawl just to the left of it. Safe to assume it wasn't the same person who wrote both things?
PLEASE NOTE: I do not condone the bad language, the senseless violence, or the horrible acting (mainly from the Father character). Enjoy... This week's students of the week are Rachel W and Chloe S.
One of the worst things about this year was NOT getting to teach these wonderful ladies (what made it even worse was Chloe bailed as my C.S. student. She chose to take - what?!?! - Family Studies instead!). They are both such different people (from one another, I mean) but together they are amazing friends. I know they have supported each other through some tough times over the past few years and it has been very inspiring to see. Rachel is very cerebral and generous and has one of the best smiles in the whole school. Here's how great she is: she has taken one of the wildest and craziest KG students of all time and turned him into her committed and doting boyfriend. Impressive! I LOVE Rachel's plan for the future: she wants to be a midwife. Rachel a midwife? All I can say is YES!!! Rachel is also one of my biggest critics when it comes to clothing. She'll often compliment me on a nice shirt or tie, but if she DOESN'T like something I'm wearing... she doesn't hold back. There is one tie I will never wear again after her STRONG reaction to it the last time I wore it. But I know she means well. Chloe is a truly unique person. When you first meet her - with her piercings and tattoos and grumblings - you might think to yourself: "wow. She's a little intimidating". But here's a little secret for you: Chloe is one of the biggest softies in the school. This girl has so much love inside of her that sometimes it just spills out even when she doesn't want it to. I have had some awesome talks over the years with her and I can only hope that she will come back for more in the future. One of the things I will always remember about these two happened just a couple weeks ago. I walked into my class and thought they were doing something they shouldn't have (looking at other students' personal information on my computer). I was so surprised and angry (and tired - Simone wasn't sleeping that week) that I MAY HAVE dropped an F-bomb!! Terrible! Then I realized they were actually just reading my blog. Whoops! I felt very sheepish to say the least. So one last time Rachel and Chloe: I am truly sorry! Bad bad Mr Wadge! Thanks to you both for being such independent, strong and opinionated women. We need more of your type in the world. I have nothing but love and respect for both of you and... (sniff! sniff!)... I will miss you! All the best! |
